It’s the season of Valentines and romance again. Here in the northland the snow is flying, yet I know it’s nearly time to put in the flowers. Holly and I visited a local greenhouse for a dose of color, plantlife and artistic inspiration to combat the cabin fever. It worked like a charm. We’re seldom disappointed when it comes to greenhouses especially in the winter. It’s like a deep breath.
You need to freqently reinvent romance. Take it someplace it’s never been before. Teach it new tricks. Dare it to climb a tower especially if it’s afraid of heights.
What to do this Valentines Day? One of those deals where you get dinner for two, complimentary glass of champaign and a rose for the lady? Maybe, if you’ve never done it before, but if you dine out frequently try dining in.
Get some nice cuts of meat, chicken or fish, marinate them and fix them with a nice bed of fresh-cut steamed vegetables. Serve it with some nice crusty bread you tear apart and a chilled glass of white wine.
Avoid the crouds and cater your own picnic on the living room floor with exotic selections from a nice deli. Pick a special wine and follow with decadent dessert, a custom playlist and deep conversation that feeds your spirits.
Consider winter sports like cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or ice skating. You can even skate indoors in many areas. Many parks in the north are offering a moonlight ski, snowshoe or hike and light the trails with luminaries or candles. Rent a rustic cabin for a night in a state park and you can figure out the rest.
Take a community ed art class together or take in the works of others at a gallery or art museum. Follow your visit with a cup of coffee and chocolate croisant and together interpret the messages of the works you just enjoyed.
Or try an erotic picnic in the intimacy of your bedroom. Set the tone with an array of candles, music, sensual baths and a colorful plate of olives and cheese with a nice Malbec.
